Exploring the Possible Benefits Of Video Games

2. Invitation paragraph
You are being invited to take part in a research study. Before you decide it is important for you to understand why the research is being done and what it will involve. Please take time to read the following information carefully and discuss it with others if you wish. If anything is not clear or if you would like more information please contact the researcher via the email given below. Take time to decide whether or not you wish to take part in the study.

3. What is the purpose of the project/study?
The present study is Concerned with the impacts of video games on well-being. We will kindly ask that you play a video game for just a few minutes to give us your impression about it. This will be followed by some questions that reflect on your experience with the video game and your emotions.


4. Why have I been chosen?
It is important that we assess as many participants as possible, and you may have indicated that you are interested in taking part in this study. We invited participants that are 18 years of age or older and that are fluent in reading and writing in English.

5. Do I have to take part?
It is up to you to decide whether or not to take part. You can also withdraw your data any time before data analysis begins on 30th September 2024 by providing a unique 4-digit code at the end of the study. After the 30th of September 2024, it won't be possible to withdraw your participation, as your data will have been anonymized.

In addition to this, because your participation is voluntary, you are free to stop participating at any point without penalty or loss of privilege, except for benefits resulting directly from your participation in this study. If you wish to stop at any point simply close your browser window. You are also free to refrain from answering any of the questions in the study, though if you do not answer some questions, you will not be able to continue (as these are central questions for the study).

6. What will I have to do?
You will be tasked to play a video game on the internet browser (Entitled: Mario) For just a few minutes. Following this you will be asked to complete some questionnaire regarding your experience with the video game and well-being. This study is expected to last approximately 30 minutes.

7. What are the possible risks or benefits of taking part?
There are no known risks in participating in this research. We hope that your participation will help not only you but many people who could potentially benefit from playing video games. The information you provide throughout the study could help us further understand the positive impacts of video games on well-being.

8. Data protection and Confidentiality
Personal data is any data that can lead to the identification of a specific (living) person. It can be obviously identifiable data such as a name or ID number, but it can also be a combination of "innocent" data such as age, height/weight. wealth, job position, company, city, etc. That when combined
can lead to the identification of a person.

Personal data (e.g., gender, age and your student email address) WILL BE collected by this study and your confidentiality will be protected. 9.         What will happen to the results of the research study?
The results of the research study will be used as part of a Postgraduate dissertation. The results may also be presented at conferences or in journal articles. 

10.       Who has reviewed the study?
The study has received full ethical clearance from the Research ethics committee who reviewed the study.  The committee is the Middlesex Psychology Research Ethics Committee.
