Who is leading this research?

This research is entitled “The Social and Cultural Benefits of Morecambe Bay” and it is a subproject on the larger European Union-funded MARBEFES project: www.marbefes.eu. It is being led by researchers at University College Dublin and University of East Anglia.

What is this research about?

We aim to understand key social and cultural benefits of marine biodiversity and ecosystems in Morecambe Bay. These are benefits such as recreation, relaxation, connection to nature, cultural heritage, and artistic inspiration. We want to understand how to better protect these benefits through environmental policy. We also want to understand how these benefits are (or are not) tied to healthy ecosystems.

Why have you been invited to take part?

Because you have visited, lived in, worked in, or volunteered in Morecambe Bay.

How long does the questionnaire take to complete?

Approximately 15-20 minutes.

How will we protect your privacy?

Your answers will be anonymous. Survey data are securely stored on a cloud server located within the European Union that can only be accessed by the project team. It will only be used for the research purposes outlined above. If at any stage you have concerns about your rights as a participant in this study, you can contact the Data Protection Officer at UCD by email at gdpr@ucd.ie.
