Jubilee Playspace Improvements
Martlesham Parish Council
Martlesham Parish Council are carrying out a Parish-wide survey to gather feedback on improvements to Jubilee Playspace (the area behind Carol Avenue off Black Tiles Lane, Martlesham).
The 'Money to Play With' consultations in February 2016 and 2018, both sought views on how to spend available funds for 'sports and active play' from the Outdoor Playing Space Fund for Parishes.
Those 2016 and 2018 consultations settled on three projects for the Parish Council to take forward and deliver. The 3 projects were:
- a trim trail
- a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA)
- a Bike Trails Pump Track at the Diamond Jubilee Bike Trails site
The 5km Trim Trail has been delivered so we are moving on to the next two project proposals. The Parish Council are checking that the feedback given in 2016 and 2018 still stands.
The majority of the money comes from the Mill Heath development and therefore it is a requirement that the money is spent on sport or active play in the vicinity of Mill Heath, Martlesham.
Jubilee Playspace has been selected as the appropriate site for many reasons, including the usable space, ease of maintenance, environmental considerations, location and other projects going on in the Parish. The proposals in the survey accommodate the existing tree canopies without removing any trees on site.
Unfortunately, there is insufficient usable space for a full size and 'every sport' Multi-Use Games Area so the next best alternative is an all-weather sports surface.
Option 1
For active play, remove the existing red and blue climbing frames to make space for a new stainless steel circular group swing. Install a new steel, multi-climber, similar to the illustration. Keep the existing toddler tower and the current swings.
For active sport, install a new all-weather sports surface (19m x 8m). It comes with stand-alone football goals and two stand-alone cantilever basketball posts and hoops.
Option 2
Install a new and enclosed sports surface with an all-weather all-season, black wet pour surface (22m x 13m). It comes with heavy duty football goal ends at either end, rebound walls, two basketball hoops over each football goal mouth and green surround panelling. For safety purposes , there will also be two chicane openings for safe entry and exit to the court.
Neither option is intended to provide a competitive sports facility and it is anticipated that for both options, all the facilities will be used informally with users just turning up and playing (i.e no booking).
