Social Media Users and Subscription Services

I am Dr. Paul Geyer, a Postdoctoral Researcher in the School of Information and Communication Studies at University College Dublin (UCD). I am undertaking a study of subscription services across mainstream social media (YouTube Premium, Snapchat+, X Premium, etc.) as part of my research into social media. I am not connected with or report to any social media platform, nor do I have any involvement in the management or governance of any social media platform.

The study is concerned with documenting social media users’ perspectives and experiences with subscription services on social media.

This study is being conducted to better understand how subscription services are reshaping social media platforms. To date, there is little research into the impacts of subscription services on mainstream social media (YouTube, Snapchat, Facebook, Instagram, X), so this project is intended to fill this gap.
