Introduction

Science and research has a fundamental role in accelerating the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). For researchers, being able to relate their own work to the SDG framework is becoming increasingly important in order to demonstrate societal impact, attract further funding and identify potential new collaborations that can drive progress. Yet, identifying SDG-relevant research is a challenge, with several different methodologies and approaches being used across the research ecosystem.

The SDG Publisher Compact Fellows is an action group of the Higher Education Sustainability Initiative (HESI) who would like to better understand how academic publishers are relating published content to the SDG framework. This short survey should take no longer 5 mins to complete and explores what types of methodologies are currently being used and the desire for a common classification or taxonomy that could become an industry standard.
