Castleford Town Centre Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) Public Consultation In 2017, Wakefield Council introduced a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) to help manage anti-social behaviour in Castleford town centre. The PSPO gave the Police and Council additional powers to address issues such as street drinking, drug use, and people urinating or defecating in public. The PSPO was renewed in 2020 and 2023, and we are now consulting on proposals to update and renew it in 2026.Wakefield Council is proposing to update the current Public Spaces Protection Order to: renew the PSPO for an additional three-year period; introduce new rules to deal with a wider range of anti-social behaviours; and extend the PSPO area to include the retail park between Albion Street and the railway line.
